Hello,
I can't seem to get actions which require multiple-word (quote
delimited) command parameters to work. I'm referring to actions along
these lines:
Action {
name = "Whatnot";
process = exec "something -x 'a long parameter'";
match = "";
}
A few examples of things I'd like to accomplish:
process = exec "ratpoison -c 'exec expose'";
process = exec "ratpoison -c 'select -'";
Is there a way to do this?

Hi fellow strokers! I am new to wayv formerly using strokeit( in windows) which is rather excellent. Anyways i need a lil help with configuring wayv.conf 1. Is there a list of keys which i send through sendkeys. In particular i want to send Alt+F4 and assign is to /(down) 2. Can i assign different gestures to /(down) and /(up) Or -(left to right) and vis-a-versa 3. Possible to assign different gestures to diff programs? Again strokeit is the thign to notice That will be all, for now ;) Thanks -- Using Opera's revolutionary e-mail client: http://www.opera.com/mail/ |

wayV 0.3, a minor release, is now available for download from: http://www.stressbunny.com/wayv This release represents an adoption of a new development model for wayV. Prior to this I was developing wayV along the lines of release rarely with major releases; instead I'm adopting the approach of code often, release often. The main changes are: - Launch can now use any numbered mouse pointer (thanks to Nick Rusnov) - Man page fixes (thanks again) - code compilation fixes (and again :) - adoption of a new development model A big thanks goes to Nick Rusnov who takes care of the Debian package of wayV and whose code this release is primarly based upon. Good luck, Mike -- The important thing to realize is that it is impossible to prove anything without beginning with something which is accepted without proof. |

Do you know if wayV is still running in the background? Or has
it shut down? The above error means wayV cannot take over certain
mouse and keypress combinations for gesture activation because
they're already held.
If Caps Lock, Scroll Lock or Num Lock has changed state and been
left in the new state this could be affecting the Launch (though I
doubt thats the problem?)

Hi Thomas,

How does the terminal output prevent wayV working on a handheld? BTW
I'll patch the code so that turning off text output is a compile time
option, or should the text output be off by default?
> One more Question: The action function is working - I can call the terminal or calculater, but the keyboardinput won't work with the described method... maby you could help me...

What keyboard input are you attemping? What letters? And what
hardware device?
BTW I've CC'ed this email to the wayv-users email list, it might
help someone else.

I've used it with Mandrake 7.1 and KDE and its worked.
What are you using for the Launch keys?
Turning on Num Lock, Scroll Lock or Caps Lock can interfere with
gesture input (yep, this is a bug).
BTW I've CC'ed this email to the Way...@li...

(I might miss this, since I've turned of core dumping... I'll switch it back on :) ) I use Xfree86 v. 4.0.2, with a NVIDIA GeForce2 MX, but experienced It also with my TNT2 M64 (also NVIDIA) they use a agp/glx etc. driver from nvidia (doesn't com with std. XF dist. ) On top of it I use Enlightenment 0.16.5, run from a custom .xsession file (that is, not under gnome or nothing) I also start wayv with a & just before E, and use it with the fullscreen option triggered by shift rightclick. Beneeth it all is a Linux kernel version 2.4.5, custom build on a Duron processor (i686). I hope this all may help you, and it is by the way, the only program I have that disappears in that way. Also, I believe ruling out processor heating and slow harddisks is safe since my system is running way below max temps, and I have a software raid0 harddisk sollution that provides about 40Mb/sec. wayV 0.2, a major release, is now available for download from:
http://www.stressbunny.com/wayv
and the specific url is:
http://www.stressbunny.com/gimme/wayv/development/wayv.20010424.tar.gz
There are a lot of new features and improvements including:
- direction based matching
- user feedback of what action is matched
- quick cancelling of mismatched actions
- configurable input window
- emulating keypress'
A more detailed list:
- carried out significant work on display so it now supports:
* no input window
* a popup full display input window
* an input window whose size is completely set-able
* option to control whether input windows are managed by the window manager
- user feedback added that tells the end user what action was matched
- option to control how long the user feedback appears on the center
of the screen
- keymaps files, via new Include structure in wayv.conf, used to control
what keycodes to send
- second gesture matching method that uses the direction the gesture was
made in (Pda & Vector) (thanks to Simon Hart)
- vector key added to Gesture for direction matching
- 2 new processes for Action:
* sendkey (send keypress')
* kill (kill the last application that was started by wayV)
- experimentally extension of exec so starting and placing an X application
is a single occurrence (WAYV_MOUSE_START and WAYV_MOUSE_END)
- bug fix so straight lines are recognizable (thanks to Simon Hart)
- bug fix so command lines in exec are working properly
Please let others know :)
Good luck,
Mike

wayV 0.2 pre 1 is now available for download from: http://www.stressbunny.com/wayv This supports sending any type of keypress via a gesture, including multiple keypress', e.g. CTRL+ALT+a, etc. Some of the advantages of this include been able to: - have a gesture associated with a website address, so you can click on you web browser, carry out a gesture and up pops the web page - have a gesture associated with the multiple keypress you use to move between virtual desktops, etc. Anyway pull it down and let me know what ye think :) Tomorrow I finish the documentation and then there'll be a general announcement of version 0.2's availability. Hallo wayV email list subscribers, Mike Bennett, the main wayV developer, here with a status update. Firstly wayV isn't dead - recently I took some electrodes to it and brought it back to life (mmmmuuh haha its lives its lives!) In honour of the resuscitation I'm code naming the upcoming 0.2 release "Frankenstien". One major non-code related change is that wayV is no longer hosted on SourceForge. While they provide some great facilites I felt a setup where I had full control was more appropiate. Therefore wayV's new home is: http://www.stressbunny.com/wayv New features and updates include: - configurable so that gestures can be inputted via a window manager managed window - feedback on what action is matched - ability to kill (with a gesture) the last program executed via wayV - direction based matching (thanks to Simon Hart) - draw a gesture and an associated key press is carried out, e.g. draw A and the letter a appears in your current input window - ability to do execute and place (very experimental - more about it later) - various bug fixes including recognizing straight lines correctly (thanks to Simon Hart again), proper parsing of the Action.exec key, etc - seriously improved build configure 0.2 should be ready within 2 to 3 weeks - thats the time line I'm working towards. Outstanding before the release can happen: - finish off sending key press', it's needs a lot more work - update all the documentation with the latest new configuration options - general code clean up - test test test I'd appreciate if people could pull down the latest development code: http://www.stressbunny.com/gimme/wayv/development/wayv.20010313.tar.gz and provide some feedback. BTW make sure and backup your existing "wayv.conf" first! I've lots of ideas for the future of wayV - especially improvements for mobile devices which I'll outline after the 0.2 release - but if you have suggestions then please sent them on. All feedback is appreciated :) Good luck, Mike |

wayV (http://wayv.sourceforge.net) is a free software (GPL) project to extend the the functionality of the mouse. This is achieved by allowing a user to make gestures with the mouse resulting in an action occuring, i.e. draw an N and netscape starts, draw a C and xcalc starts, etc. The first official release of wayV is now available from the download section of the wayV website: http://wayv.sourceforge.net/downloads.shtml This version provides the ability to: - start programs by drawing shapes/making gestures with the mouse any where on the desktop - setup how wayV begins gesture capture, i.e. which mouse buttons and/or keyboard combinations activate it - turn on or off user feedback, i.e. whether the drawn gesture is displayed on screen - associate gestures with programs (for those who aren't afraid to use a text editor on the configuration file, see "HOWTO-wayv-conf" and wayv.conf) - create new gestures/shapes that the brave setup in the configuration file For further information please visit the main wayV website: http://wayv.sourceforge.net |

Hi, > i guess i am one of the first subscribers to that list, am i? Yes, I didn't want the mouse press event to be propagated to the programs over which the mouse was clicked. It could lead to all types of confusion if wayV and another program were simultaneously trying to use the mouse. > so a combination, that does not lock the buttons would be very important > (so i had to put wayV out of my .xinitrc again :( Oh, no - this I must fix ;) > Damn.. if Xfree86 3.3.6 would just support my 6th mouse button! It shouldn't be - it'll be a matter of rewriting the parser slightly and *fingers crossed* setting up a better mask on the XGrabButton. Also I've decided to defreeze (/me pulls pulls out a blow torch and gets to work) wayV 0.0.9. I'm going to add in the multiple button activation before 0.1 - too many people are saying they'd use it if that was possible. Hopefully I'll get that implemented this evening - ahh now isn't that great to see such a responsive free software project :) bye bye, Mike |

hi, i guess i am one of the first subscribers to that list, am i? anyway, i tried to change the code a bit today to fit my needs, then i realized there is a problem with XGrabButton as it locks the button for other apps, right? ..because i need all my five buttons - 1 for click, 2 for "open in new window" in netscape, 3 for context-sensitive menues in almost all apps, 4 and 5 for up and down with my wheel in netscape.. so a combination, that does not lock the buttons would be very important (so i had to put wayV out of my .xinitrc again :( Damn.. if Xfree86 3.3.6 would just support my 6th mouse button! Does 4.0 support more than 5 actually?
