WhatIsGistOS

James Harris

What is GistOS?

GistOS is a world of origins that express streams in their own time, share only by granted handles, wait on system duration, and may consult a computer clock they are not required to believe.

Three rulings

  1. Rights on handles only. Carriers carry routing metadata. Handles carry R W G M S A. Received carriers confer zero authority.
  2. Endpoints are kids. sink_class=proc is a process table. Other non-none sinks are devices. Send needs W. Grant is the only authority move.
  3. Two clocks, not three. T-int is kernel duration. T-ext is reference only. Origin time is not a clock. Durable expiry is a persisted record, not wall time.

Binding test

If changing the binding changes rights, death, or time-trust, the binding is wrong.

The C program in this project is one binding.
The Raspberry Pi will be another.
Neither may rewrite the rulings.

First body

flows/demo.flow walks echo → upper → count.
The last subunit emits onto the origin stream-kid.
The harness waits and receives 17.

That is a sentence, not a product demo.
