Hi, I guess this is very basic, but I know almost nothing about audio editing.

I have several hundreds of audio files in 3GP and AMR formats. I'd like to edit them in the WaveShop bitperfect style in order to avoid losing any quality in the process or creating huge files (the files use a lot of my HD space already). Can I edit these files in Waveshop?

    Thanks

3GP and AMR appear to be mobile phone formats. AFAIK WaveShop does not support either of them, so you will need to convert them to a supported format before you can edit them with WaveShop. The list of supported formats is here:

Yeah, I had checked the list of file formats already, but what confuses me is that, if I'm getting it right, 3GP is a container format rather than an audio codec. According to GSpot, the audio codec used in my 3GP files is "mp4a: MPEG-4 AAC LC". According to the list of supported formats, 3GP is not supported, but AAC is. Hence my question. Can Waveshop recognize the AAC audio in the 3GP file?

Can Waveshop recognize the AAC audio in the 3GP file?

No idea, but it's a cheap experiment. Why not try it and report back?

It says "File contains data in an unknown format". So it doesn't recognize the internal AAC codec (assuming that's what I have). I'll try to find some program that can extract the audio data from the 3GP files to a format recognized by Waveshop in a lossless way.

Update: This is really easy to fix. I just substituted the 3GP extension of the file with an M4A extension and it works beautifully. Maybe you can integrate this into the program, it must be very easy and straightforward to do and you get another supported format essentially for free.

Glad to hear it worked out! I should have thought to suggest this. I have seen many other cases where problems are solved by renaming the file extension.
