# Welcome to the C++/Python Version of WavePacket #

This is an experimental version of the [WavePacket project](http://sourceforge.net/p/wavepacket), coded in C++/Python, still under development. Note that there is also a (more mature and stable!) [Matlab/Octave version of WavePacket](https://sourceforge.net/p/wavepacket/matlab).
+
+**Note: This package is superseded by a Python-only package now maintained at github: https://github.com/ulflor/wavepacket!**

-_Streamlined the setup of an open system in energy eigenstate representation. Normalized a lot of names. Smaller features are the addition of some smaller functionality (Lorentzian, soft rectangular pulses, more demos with plotting output and a major overhaul of the build (upgraded and dropped dependencies etc.)._
+_Added 2D plots. Apart from that, there were two big changes with fallout. Most importantly, I spent a lot of time on building the library; the goal / fallout is a better build documentation (in the form of the Vagrantfile), an upgrade of the tensor library, and, most importantly, a binary Windows package. The second big feature is a Faber polynomial propagator. To make it usable, I also added functionality to truncate operators and estimate their spectrum._

-_Altogether. there are three main improvements. A new way of using Wavepacket with a VM has been added, which should be reasonably close to a plug&play approach. The Python plotting got a complete overhaul; you can now record animations and customize the plots considerably. Finally, I added exponentiation of operators; this feature needs a few more improvements, then we can tackle Matlab-style absorbing boundary conditions and the split operator scheme. And the Chebychev propagation got a little faster (around 10%) by removing temporaries._

-_Two major changes are the addition of plotting to the Python interface (only 1D for the beginning), and a reorganization of the operator hierarchy for later automated manipulation (optimization, split operator, ...). In addition, there have been numerous smaller usability improvements, for example less casting in the Python interface, explicitly real-valued eigenstates, or the ability to project onto a channel by giving the channel index instead of a projection operator._
