delivery methods and timing.
I would like to outline a basic hydroponic growing method known as "drip irrigation". Drip irrigation uses a growing medium that has some absorption but it is used instead of dirt for it's neutral qualities. Using a medium it is important to deliver the water and nutrient mix at regular intervals during the daylight hours, a pause in between feedings allows the root system to slowly dry out and thereby training the plant to take advantage of the regular feedings. This process has been documented to enhance the growth factor of the plant by three.

Some of the features I would like to intergrate into this system are:
data logging,
web based configuration,
modular construction for expansion and a system for maintaing a battery of tanks spread out over a large area,
open source.
