Waste does not autoconnect
2005-02-14 12:49
I've been on a mesh (10-30) people for some time now
and everytime I start up waste, it would automatically
attempt to connect to every IP it remembers in order
for me to get back on the mesh. Normal behavior.

Now I've decided to start my own mesh, complete with
network id/passphrase and stealth mode. Total people
numbers 3 at the moment. However, waste will not
automatically connect when I start it up. I now have to
always punch in the IP manually.

When I'm connected to two other users, the IPs show up
on the network status window. I close waste, then
restart and the IPs are gone and waste just sits there
not knowing what to connect to. What's interesting
though is that where I punch the IP in, if I hit the
down arrow next to the box, the previous IPs i've
entered are in there.

I've tried reinstalling twice, turning off the network
passphrase and stealth mode.

Any help would be appreciated.

RE: Waste does not autoconnect

Since all the clients are connected via a LAN,
and following the normal IP scheme for a lan I.E.
192.168...., Waste was probably filtering out those
internal numbers.

I managed to get Waste to remember the IPs once I
had the clients connect using the WAN IP on the router,
which forwarded the requests back onto a comp acting as
a HUB for the waste network on the LAN.

It will be useful in a later version of Waste to
toggle filtering of internal IPs on and off to allow
Waste to function correctly on a LAN. (Yes I know Waste
was meant to secure against the public internet, but we
also use it as an IM platform, regardless of the type
of network)
