#9 cannot boot

When i try to boot up war linux v.5 on my laptop it finds
the cd rom drive and the hdd and other stuff but then
says
Try passing the init= option to the kernel

so i reboot and type linux init=

then it says cannot mount root on 3:02

any ideas of other kernel options i could use
