    i have 2 NIC
    eth0
    IP          192.168.192.1
    Mask     255.255.255.0
    GW        192.168.187.254

    eth1
    IP            192.168.187.145
    Mask     255.255.255.0
    GW        192.168.187.254

    NAT ADD eth1

the device under test is connected to  eth0 with IP 192.168.192.2  and on eth1 i have the LAN
the wanem works ok on symmetric mode.

Now i need to do asymmetric test but when i chose symmetric no and apply i have again symmetric yes
please give me instructions to have on eth0 a downstream of 512k and an upstream of 256k
    tnx

(Wonder why you are adding a nat on eth1 …)

When you are doing asymmetric settings ensure that you also enter the source and destination ip address with relevant masks. In one ruleset you destination will be 192.168.192.2 with a mask of 32 and in the other it will be the source.

For traffic from LAN to device apply setting on eth0.
For Reverse traffic apply on eth1.

    Hope this helps.

(Wonder why you are adding a nat on eth1 ...)

in this way the 192.168.192.2 is presented to the lan as if it was 192.168.187.145 and it works
this because it is not possible to add rules to the device under test

I tested the bandwidth eth0 settings are for download and eth1 for upload this as seen from the device under test
    it works ok

any to any works fine for me

at this point is not clear to me why you suggest additional settings on souce and destination and symmetric no
    what is the difference ?
I tested setting 2 rules on eth0 one 192.168.192.2 with a mask of 32 and dest any at 256k
and the other any as source and 192.168.192.2 with a mask of 32 as dest at 512k

but in this way the upload band is not affected only the download
so i don't understand the symmetric no on eth0
    please explain
    many thanks

correct me if I am wrong - your device under test must be a client ( or a peer initiating the communication)

WANem GUI will not allow any to any will not do for asymmetric setting for an interface. It should know which direction of traffic you are applying what setting. Telling it the source and destination IP address helps WANem decide which bandwidth to apply and in which direction.

But if you have 2 interfaces (NICs) as in your case then there is no need to use "Symmetric = No" nor do you need to specify IP addresses and masks.

First I am confused what you mean by upstream and downstream. Anyway let me assume the following

    upstream - device to lan
    downstream - lan to device

Remember that WANem emulation settings are in the direction of egress traffic. WANem will not apply emulation to incoming traffic (read - incoming to WANem)

So upstream  settings has to be applied to eth1 and downstream to eth0.
