Hello there I would greatly appreciate a small amount of your time to assist with my doctoral research at The University of Newcastle. The research concerns open source licensing and we're seeking developers working on Java projects. The research is supervised, ethics-approved, anonymous and results will be freely available. Participation will also provide a custom licensing report for your project. To learn more, please visit: http://licensing-research.newcastle.edu.au Thanks for reading this email, and I hope you'll consider participating. Best regards Ben Alex (My apologies for being off-topic; this list will not be emailed again) |

Antony, In the http://www.waferproject.org/feature-matrix2.html, could you put a tick for Melati in the "O/R" row? Melati comes with an O/R system called POEM with various nice features like cacheing, automatic unification between DB schema and Java schema, etc. Ta, William |

Hi, I have rolled out a new release of http://melati.org/ There are two significant changes: 1. The admin system can now use webmacro templates from the jar file, removing the need to duplicate these files within your own project. 2. The JUnit tests have been moved into src/test and the code into src/main Happy Christmas. yours TimP |

Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_de.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |

Hi folks, I revised the Chrysalis Weblog Application based on the new release of Chrysalis. I put the revised web application in a zip file here: http://chrysalis.sourceforge.net/wafer/ I also reorganized the code to bring it more in line with Chrysalis's other sample application. In particular, I changed the object model so that it uses object serialization to save its data instead of a relational database (none of the other Chrysalis samples require a database). This email is to have another open source Java framework added to the list accessible at http://www.waferproject.org/ The name of this framework is "Corendal Framework". This is a framework for web applications that doesn't NOT use JSP, and is targeted at database-driven intranets. The sourceforge page is http://sourceforge.net/projects/corendalfm/ An example of web site built with that framework can be seen at http://www.corendal.com/arttoulouse/home/ __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? >=20 > Paving the way for a JSF implementation? ;-) [Thompson, Christopher]=20 Actually no but you bring up a good point since JSF is coming down the road real soon and that is do we allow developers of Wafer with JSF to change the UI to suit more of a event driven model? =20 I can see two sides to it. By letting them change the UI they are showing some of the strengths that the framework can provide however by changing the UI it lessens the apples to apples comparasion. However by simple changing the UI would that really change it enough to be a apples to apples comparison? Meaning, the use cases don't change so the underlying code is comparable, just the UI would not be. Thoughts? Kris Thompson >=20 > In my opinion this screen design is fine. In general there seems to be a lot of positive feed back from the community on what Wafer is and I think most folks see it as a wonderful apples to apples comparison site, however I think of it as more than just that. Ideally the code that is in our CVS repositories is good and by that I mean the Wafer Weblog application was built utilizing the power of that framework. Therefore not only do we have a repository of equal apps for the same problem but we also have a wonderful repository of tutorial code. Before you get fired up and say that we aren't a tutorial site I'm going to say in advance that you are right. My point is that nearly every web framework has an example that comes with it, why not have that example be the wafer weblog? By building the Wafer weblog as the frameworks example you can sort of speak, kill two birds with one stone. So those folks on this list who have the power to influence example development on your framework I urge you to consider the proposal to use the wafer weblog as your example either by bundling it with your code or by providing a link back to Wafer. There are problems with this but I think they are overweighed by the benefits, but before I mention the problems I wonder what is the group's response to this. There are also some things we need to do to make this work like I need to get off my ass and make better distribution releases for one. =20 Thanks =20 Kris Thompson =20 |

No, you don't seem to be thinking in the terms of desktop apps. If it were me building it I would have the main app window be a table with a row for each entry and columns for title, author, post date and number of comments. You could provide either a button for new posts or put that as a menu item in the window's menu bar. Executing this would open a new dialog for creating a post. You'll probably also want a refresh menu item. When you double-click an entry it would display a new window with the full entry and a table of comments below. There would be a button or a menu item for adding a new comment. Executing this would open a new dialog for adding a comment.
