Hullo,

we have installed the new version vym-x86-setup-2.2.4.exe, but it cannot open vym files. It gives the message:
"Couldn't find a map (*.xml) in .vym archive. "
"Couldn't open map FILE_NAME_x"
This error is similar to the error that appears in old windows versions when trying to copy a branch from a vym file to another vym file.

Thanks,

Can you attach the vym file? Or check the contents by unzipping?

I can't open vym files too and the software reports the same error messages. I also cannot save any map as vym complains: "Couldn't start zip to compress data". I checked vym files and they have xml data, so I suspect there's a problem with zip / unzip software. Is there any zip / unzip dependence that I could haven't installed on my PC?

A simple vym file create with 2.2.0.

We have create two vym files with vym-2.2.0 and vym 2.2.4 respectively. After unziping them, the differences between them are not significant. Please let us know how we can mend it. Thxs.

We tested it on a Windows Prof 32b and on a Windows Prof 64b.
Please, let us know if you want us to test some stuff.

Please, let us know how to zip manually a map-vym-directory. Which options (bzip2/store... compression level...). thxs.

On Linux and Mac OSX it is sufficient to just call unzip. vym itself does this also using
    unzip -o -d DIRECTORY.

I am not really familiar with the tools in Windows to unzip zip archive. Currently I am evaluating to use quazip within vym to extract archives directly.

    I instaled vym-x86-2.2.4 on windows 7 32bit, same error.
Fixed the error after added zip.exe from http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/zip.htm to the system PATH.
Also tried with 7-zip and gzip without success.
    C:\>zip.exe returns the folowing header.
    Copyright (c) 1990-2008 Info-ZIP - Type 'zip "-L"' for software license.
    Zip 3.0 (July 5th 2008). Usage:
zip [-options] [-b path] [-t mmddyyyy] [-n suffixes] [zipfile list] [-xi list]
    Hope this helps.

Thanks, I am waiting for more feedback on this workaround. In the end I guess zip/unzip functionality will have to go into vym (on windows, already there on Linux and Mac)

We have found the following workaround: Download from www.info-zip.org (ftp://ftp.info-zip.org/pub/infozip/win32/), the files unz600xn.exe and zip300xn.zip. Extract the exe files and copy them in the directory C:\Program Files\vym\.

Because this is a workaround, not a fix, I'd prefer to keep the bug open. Also to make it easer to find the workaround.

I am planning to integrate quazip into the windows version of vym.

I solve this issue by putting the zip.exe and unzip.exe from unxutils.sourceforge.net into yvm/bin directory. However, I found another issue that is related to this. If the path to yvm files contains space, i.e., "e:\Documents and Settings\", unzip will fail becuase the command line parameters contains space. Please pay attention to this when fixing this bug.

    [edit]
Somehow didn't see the second page on this bug thread. Apologies for the noise.
