With cygwin, you should use the win32 api if you have one, and not mesa/X.
The cygwin compiler can compile win32 apps very well, not mfc, but win32/opengl 
works fine with graphics acceleration.   To make the compiler act more like win32,
you add a -mwin32.  (see MinGw for more information: http://www.mingw.org/)
