I was able to compile it successfully on Ubuntu 9.04 despite the fact that I also was missing the OpenCL dependency.  I had to turn off BRL due to someone committing non-compiling code.  However, the errors I got are not related to the ones you are having.

I don't remember how I originally solved the vid1 dependency, but if I think I satisfied it by installing the ffmpeg package.  On my system the libvo.a and libmpeg2.a are produced by VXL's compilation itself.

Note that building VXL is not the same as the usual:

sudo make install

incantations you may be used to.

You need to make a binary directory.  Mine is VXL-bin.
Go to the binary directory.  In that directory, execute
ccmake /path/to/vxl/trunk  (which looks to be  /media/Elements/Tools/OpenSources/ComputerVision/VXL/vxl-svn-20091123 in your case)

Disable BRL (this is only temporary until they fix whatever problem that is).  Keep hitting c until the "generate" option appears.  Then hit g and quit.

Finally you can do:
make  (this will take about an hour unless you have a very fast computer)
sudo make install (assuming that everything built correctly)

Subject: [Vxl-users] Unsuccessful compilation of vxl SVN on Ubuntu 9.10

After setting VTL cmake compilation configurations, I obtained the following configuration errors:

 CMake Error at CMakeLists.txt:156 (SUBDIRS):
subdirs Incorrect SUBDIRS command.  Directory: Recognition does not exists.

 Found Open Cl?

CMake Error: The following variables are used in this project, but they are set to NOTFOUND.
Please set them or make sure they are set and tested correctly in the CMake files:
linked by target "vidl1" in directory
linked by target "vidl_vil1" in directory
linked by target "oxp" in directory
linked by target "vobgetframe" in directory
linked by target "jvid" in directory

Errors occurred during the last pass
                                                                                      CMake Version 2.6 - patch 4
Press [e] to exit help

It looks like
1) subdirectory "Recognition" is missing
2) require open Cl but where is it?
3) other staffs missing

Has there anybody successfully compiled vxl SVN?
