I am aware that my suggestion is not just an additional feature but probably a major extension of VVV.
For years I was searching for a tool such as VVV but found it only recently. As a photographer, I have to deal with a huge number of image and video files most of the time. Due to the size of these libraries, the files can certainly not be stored on any internal HDD but require quite a number of external HDDs. In order to keep track of the content of each HDD, VVV is a fantastic tool.
In order to prevent any loss of data, each external HDD I am using has a second (or sometimes even third) complement disk, that should contain an exact copy of the other disk - apart from some minor differences needed for archiving purposes.
When working with a set of these two (or three) HDDs plugged into the computer, I can use apps like the "Total Commander" to compare and visualize any differences between these pair of disks, which should contain the same files.
However, sometimes one set of these paired disks is stored separately from the other set in order to avoid data loss in cases that are beyond hardware failures, e.g. events like burglary or fire. And this is, where VVV really kicks in, as the directory of each disk is permanently available, even if the physical hard disk is not present; a situation where tools like "Total Commander" cannot be used.
And here comes my suggestion for this additional option, to be able to compare the content of paired disks while one disk is not easily available. I am not sure, how many users (or potential users) of VVV are out there, who would appreciate such a feature for purposes similar to the above described situation. On the other hand, such a feature that lets you compare two or three disks even when they are not at hand, would certainly make this application even more powerful.
And finally an additional comment: the feature to store parameters of mp3 files is nice, but for me it doesn't make any difference. First of all, I do not use mp3 but flac or aac as the better audio options, and secondly I would need the parameters of images (EXIF/IPTC data) and video files stored in the database. But this is not meant to be a request for more features, as it might be too special ;~)
Hello, and sorry for the delay.
I think that I could add a command to compare two different physical volumes (or folders).
Then I could show a list of the different files contained in the two folders.
It should not be a very complicated task.
About metadata, maybe you are not aware of vvvP (https://vvvp.sourceforge.net/).
I am a photographer too, so I designed it to handle images.
