hi, i just had to reindex a part of my records with new ids. hence there are some old links (google,..) pointing to the no more existing record. i thought about changing the error message by adding a link. therefore i edited services/Record/Record.php and changed the line: PEAR::raiseError(new PEAR_Error('Record Does Not Exist.')); to: PEAR::raiseError(new PEAR_Error('We are sorry. Record Does Not Exist. Please use our <a href="http://search.books2ebooks.eu/">search</a> to find your wanted record!')); generally i think there could be a better solution like using a template for this. what do you think about this? has anyone found another solution for this? best t. |

Coming up with an elegant solution to this problem would be easier if VuFind were designed with exception handling in mind (something I plan to remedy in the next major version), but in the meantime, perhaps the simplest solution is to redirect to a different page in that situation... i.e., instead of PEAR::raiseError, you could do something like: header("Location: MissingRecord"); exit(); ...and then create a simple web/services/Record/MissingRecord.php controller that loads an appropriate template. - Demian > -----Original Message----- > From: Thomas Schwaerzler [mailto:tho...@ui...] > Sent: Wednesday, June 29, 2011 12:57 PM > To: vufind general > Subject: [VuFind-General] Record Does Not Exist => link to search? > > hi, > > i just had to reindex a part of my records with new ids. > hence there are some old links (google,..) pointing to the no more > existing record. > > i thought about changing the error message by adding a link. therefore > i > edited services/Record/Record.php > > and changed the line: > PEAR::raiseError(new PEAR_Error('Record Does Not Exist.')); > > to: > > PEAR::raiseError(new PEAR_Error('We are sorry. Hi, We use Innovative's ILS and I finished the initial load of more than 600,000 bib records a month ago. I'm looking for a best practice of keeping records up-to-date. I read the documentation on vuFind site, but I am not sure that I'm fully understood. I have several questions in exporting bib records from my Innovative ILS. Question: is there a way of automatic procedure? vuFind documentation mentions about an automation script available on IUG clearinghouse, but I may need more details. Is anybody using it?) Question: if using a manual procedure through Data Exchange, what logics do you use to pull records? Question: how do you handle records for withdrawn items? In this case, bib records seem to get removed from the ILS as far as I know. How can I remove records from vuFind? Thanks a lot in advance, Kwangsoo Han Asst. If you'll excuse the shameless plug, you might look at the Perl-based Shrew harvet script http://code.google.com/p/shrew/ --Dave ================== David Walker Library Web Services Manager California State University http://xerxes.calstate.edu ________________________________________ From: Han, Kwangsoo [ha...@wl...] Sent: Thursday, June 30, 2011 8:32 AM To: 'vufind general' Subject: [VuFind-General] updating bib records Hi, We use Innovative's ILS and I finished the initial load of more than 600,000 bib records a month ago. There are definitely some Innovative users on the list who have regular update processes set up; hopefully you'll hear from one of them before too long. In the meantime, I can at least point you in one direction that might help: VuFind's util directory contains a script called deletes.php. This will delete records from your index based on either a MARC file with IDs in the 001 fields or a plain text format with an ID on each line. I'm not sure if there is a way to get a list of deleted records out of the Innovative system, but if there is, you should be able to turn it into a file that this script can use to clean up your VuFind index. Please let me know if there's more I can do to help! - Demian > -----Original Message----- > From: Han, Kwangsoo [mailto:ha...@wl...] > Sent: Thursday, June 30, 2011 11:32 AM > To: 'vufind general' > Subject: [VuFind-General] updating bib records > > Hi, > > We use Innovative's ILS and I finished the initial load of more than > 600,000 bib records a month ago. If you take a look at the summon wiki there is an automated script from Drexel that works great. It uses expect so you will need access to a Linux machine but it works great once you set it up. We use it daily to sync our loads with Summon and vufind. The best option is to remove the scp line and set up direct transfers from the fts client. Just email me if you need some help.
