I guess it depends to whom (among your catalogers) you talk. Per MARC21 standards;
Fields 090-099 are reserved for local call number use and local definition. For interchange purposes, documentation of the structure of the 09X fields and input conventions must be provided to exchange partners by the organization initiating the interchange.
First, VuFind needs to index these with the priority of 099 first, going down to 090, and last 050.
Secondly, if local use chose to populate any of these fields with non-unique data (something like ONLINE, or PER, all undistinguishable) for their serials, VuFind needs to allow for local implementations to map their indexes accordingly.
Does VuFind have the option of NOT indexing (exclude, suppress) call numbers accordng to material type (such as serials, eBooks)? That would be neat.

In part I agree, but I'd say it's rare to walk into an organisation with sometimes decades old cataloguing practices (and the existing applications that support them) and expect change overnight.
In that light any ILMS or discovery layer should as flexible as possible (and VuFind is), rather then insist on users changing their data to match a purist ideal.
Hopefully the advent of faceted browsing in all of the next-gen OPACs will provide some internal impetus to Libraries for change.

I need to know what is being indexed as far as call numbers in the SOLR
index for VUFind.
The documentation ( http://vufind.org/wiki/index_schema) states that call

To give some background, most of our records for online journals and serials
in our library have been assigned a call number of ONLINE or Per. (or both
in some cases). With this is mind and looking at how VUFind builds the Call
Number Facets, if we have thousands of records with the call number of Per.
Then what gets reported in the initial facet for OP - Language and
Literature’ will be largely inaccurate.
Can any libraries give any insight on how they Catalog their journals and
online journals. From my perspective being a library outsider I would just
assume our data is plain wrong and it needs to change, or we need to assign
real call numbers to our Journals (both print and online). What are the
thoughts from the community on this?
I’m also wondering that if we keep our data the way it is, is there anyway
we can customize the facets so that we can exclude items with the call
number of OPer.’ to be excluded from the Call number facets? How easy would
it be to add another facet that could help us narrow down the items with
OPer’ or OOnline’ in their call numbers?
