It defaults to 100 characters but can be set to 0 for no limit. You can override it on a per-field basis by using the syntax "f.[field].hl.fragsize" (i.e. f.title.hl.fragsize). If you want to adjust this, the easiest way is probably to add another line to the options array in web/sys/Solr.php, inside the "if ($this->_highlighting)" block around line 930.
