I am also working on running Jetty as a service. Demian is correct that the instructions in http://vufind.org/wiki/starting_and_stopping_vufind#windows_method4 are not entirely up to date for the latest version of Windows. Specifically, on a 64 bit Windows Server 2008, the error appears to be that the Java Service Wrapper included with Jetty in VuFind is for 32-bit systems only.

There is a 64-bit version available from http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.com/doc/english/download.jsp but it’s not available in the free Community Edition, only the paid Professional and Standard editions.

There is also a project Yet Another Java Service Wrapper ( http://yajsw.sourceforge.net/ ) that purports to have a stable 32 and 64 bit but migrating to it would take a bit of effort.

Thought I’d email the list to see if anyone else is running VuFind/Jetty as a service on Windows Server 2008 and whether they pursued any other paths than the above.

Thanks,

Jonathan

There are some instructions in the wiki about this:

http://vufind.org/wiki/starting_and_stopping_vufind#windows_method4

I haven’t tested these instructions in a long time, so it’s possible they may not be accurate for the latest version of Windows.  If you run into problems, please let me know!

Subject: [VuFind-General] VuFind as a Windows Service

I was wondering if anyone has ever set VuFind up as a service on Windows. I created a service but I can’t get it to start.

I keep getting the following error:

Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

I set the service up to run the following command:

C:\vufind\vufind.bat start

Thanks,

Gary
