Mike - the documentation for VuFind is a wiki - please feel free to make the updates yourself.

Hey all,
Some items missing from the documentation for the windows install that I
ran into today.

1. The YAZ step needs to be removed for the indexing part. Instead, to
index documents you simply point to a raw marc file. The indexer should
be run from the command prompt (changing the path to the marc file of
course)(All one line): Java -Xms256m -Xmx256m -Dsolr.core.name=biblio
-Dsolrmarc.path=C:/vufind.import -Dsolr.path=C:/vufind/solr
-Dmarc.path=c:/vufind/import/catdump.mrc -jar
c:/vufind/import/dist/MarcImport.jar c:/vufind/import/import.properties
2. I had to add an "Options All" to the httpd-vufind.conf file to make
it not give me an Access Denied on the homepage and "Directory index
forbidden by option directive" error in the apache error.log. I haven't
figured out which option I need to turn on to make it work or what the
exact problem is there, but that was an issue for me at least.
3. I had to add "index.php" to the DirectoryIndex setting in httpd.conf
4. On the instructions page, "Include c:/vufind/http-vufind.conf" should
read "Include c:/vufind/httpd-vufind.conf" (missing the "d" in httpd)

Hope that helps with the documentation. It needs to be updated badly.
Those 4 things could have saved me hours.
Mike

A reply like this should, with due respect, be immediately followed
with a pointer to the current documentation.

The matter of import is absolutely crucial for without it, VuFind
is useless and all effort expended on it locally is in vain.
So, please please, provide current and exhaustive documentation
in an easy to find place and in understandable language. Please
take into account that in the community outside MARCland not
everybody knows exactly what you are talking about saying
"VuFind only imports binary Marc21 records". Provide lucid
examples with illustrations, or at least point to other documenation
that may be helpful.

Thanks,
B.Eversberg
