I was under the impression that when you start vufind.sh start that it starts up solr as well.
At least it does for version 0.8.2.
I am not seeing anything is any error log. where is solr's error log file
This is version 0.8.2 that is working fine.
I installed them both the same except for the http-vufind.conf file.
I started them both the same vufind.sh start 0.8.2 works fine but 0RC1 does not and have seen nothing to tell me why.
How do I verify that solr is even running and how do I get it to run assuming there are no errors in the log file.

Error seems to show a null return from solr... or at least it's not being put on screen. You could check solr's error log too. Maybe there's a schema change or something if you are looking at your exiting (0.8) index.

Bill,
I checked web/interface/compile and it is writable.
I copied the httpd-vufind.conf file to apache2 and it seems to be working.

The first thing I would do is check and see if your rewrite rules are
working.

One of the things that changed from 0.8 to 1.0 is that there's not
longer a .htaccess file -- the preferred way to do things is to put
your rewrite rules in the httpd.conf file.

You can certainly still use a .htaccess file -- just pull the rewrite
rules httpd-vufind.conf

The next thing to check is to make sure web/interface/compile is
writable by the web server; otherwise you'll get Smarty errors.

We wanted to see about vufind 1.0RC1.
    So I set-up another Ubuntu 8.10 server.
I have vufind install. PHP works fine and I have verified that it
    is working
Here is the URL for RC1 of vufind http://136.159.240.185/vufind/
I am getting unable to process query.
I cannot find any errors in any of the log files.
So how do I find out what is the problem better yet how do I fix
    this issue.
Not much info because I can not find any messages to tell me the
    problem.
I was able to import a number of records with import.sh.
Apache2 and mysql are both running.

Any suggestions would be most helpful.
    Edward
