Ok, so I see a new NodeRecorder.

I didn't saw the internals of NodeRecorder yet, but I presume it's 
lightweight, so I can instanciate a few thousands without major trouble 
and keep them in my internal structures, right?

I think you should introduce two new methods into NodeRecorder:

VTDNav NodeRecorder.getNav();

int NodeRecorder.getPositionsCount();
