Is it just me, or does crippling the software until you pay a donation for the project like really against the spirit (and I think the terms) of the GPL? And exactly what does it prove if someone can just go in and dig out the crippling elements?
Roommate downloaded this, tried it out, after a few minutes, he got a dialog box pop-up stating that in order to get the full capabilities of the software, he needs to donate or some such nonsense. I haven't seen it myself, but if that's the case...
