Making a Simple Slideshow

In agreement with the [Scene Concept] it is possible to create a scenen consisiting of still images that transition, one to the next to create a slideshow.

First, steer to the directory you wish to save your project to. For a slideshow it is a good idea to have the images completely prepared so that no further processing is necessary, and have them named as a series, e.g. “Slide 000.png”, “Slide 001.png”, etc. This will simplify putting the images in the correct order in Volpe. Go to the Images tab to see the files available:

Select the first image of the slide show and wait for it to load. Then return to the Images tab. To select further images, control-click can be used; but Volpe will also recognise that a numbered series of images is present and allows you to choose all the images in the series:

The first loaded image is shown in the column Selected (1) and directly underneath is a link (2) “Select all /Slide_\d+.png/ (4 images)”. Clicking on this will show all images in the series to be selected:

Now to the details of the slideshow. Click on the Tools tab where initially the Video/Timelapse subtab is highlighted.

Click here on the Transition/Slideshow subtab to determine further details.

Note the following:

 1. The checked “Lock times” checkbox ensures that all times are the same for all images. Uncheck the box to enter different times per line.

 2. The “Still” and 3. “Transition” durations are entered as seconds:frames, as described in [Extending a Video or Timelapse Sequence with a Buffer]. If the “Lock times” checkbox is checked, then only the first line is active, the values in the other lines are updated when leaving a field.

 4. The transition “Type” and 5. starting position (“Starts from”) can be selected. A wide range of transition types is available (see [Image Transitions] for extensive examples); depending on the transition type chosen, different starting points are possible. In addition, for some transitions a blur value (6. “Blur”) makes sense and can be chosen. All transition options must be individually chosen for every image pair, there is no locking mechanism as there is for durations.

Finally, 7., 8., and 9., the “C”, “D”, and “▲” buttons can be used to manipulate the list as follows:

  • C: copy the image at the current position;
  • D: delete the image from the current position;
  • ▲: move the image up one position; note that the list can be put into any arbitrary order with just one button, a “down” button is not necessary.

Ready to go? Back to the Project tab, and click the Produce scene button. Forgot to save the scene? No worries, if no scene name has been entered you will be reminded to enter one before processing begins. In any case, the project file is always saved before processing commences, as well as a backup (see [Backup Files])
