Thanks, that looks very promising, I will try it tonight when I'm home. If other people want to try it, it's part of the VNCed distribution at http://vnced.sourceforge.net/ ; they have the current latest version (0.9.3). Thanks again for your help, Ciro. --- On Tue, 9/9/08, 254463387 <254...@qq...> wrote: From: 254463387 <254...@qq...> Subject: Re: [Vnc2swf-users] Installing latest version on Win32 To: "kresjer" <kr...@ya...>, "General discussion about vnc2swf" <vnc...@li...> Date: Tuesday, 9 September, 2008, 3:38 AM _filtered #yiv2113157887 { font-family:宋体; } _filtered #yiv2113157887 { font-family:Verdana; } _filtered #yiv2113157887 { } _filtered #yiv2113157887 {margin:72.0pt 90.0pt 72.0pt 90.0pt;} #yiv2113157887 P.MsoNormal { FONT-SIZE:10.5pt;MARGIN:0cm 0cm 0pt;FONT-FAMILY:"Times New Roman";TEXT-ALIGN:justify;} #yiv2113157887 LI.MsoNormal { FONT-SIZE:10.5pt;MARGIN:0cm 0cm 0pt;FONT-FAMILY:"Times New Roman";TEXT-ALIGN:justify;} #yiv2113157887 DIV.MsoNormal { FONT-SIZE:10.5pt;MARGIN:0cm 0cm 0pt;FONT-FAMILY:"Times New Roman";TEXT-ALIGN:justify;} #yiv2113157887 A:link { COLOR:blue;TEXT-DECORATION:underline;} #yiv2113157887 SPAN.MsoHyperlink { COLOR:blue;TEXT-DECORATION:underline;} #yiv2113157887 A:visited { COLOR:purple;TEXT-DECORATION:underline;} #yiv2113157887 SPAN.MsoHyperlinkFollowed { COLOR:purple;TEXT-DECORATION:underline;} #yiv2113157887 SPAN.EmailStyle17 { FONT-WEIGHT:normal;COLOR:windowtext;FONT-STYLE:normal;FONT-FAMILY:Verdana;TEXT-DECORATION:none;} #yiv2113157887 DIV.Section1 { } #yiv2113157887 UNKNOWN { FONT-SIZE:10pt;} #yiv2113157887 BLOCKQUOTE { MARGIN-TOP:0px;MARGIN-BOTTOM:0px;MARGIN-LEFT:2em;} #yiv2113157887 OL { MARGIN-TOP:0px;MARGIN-BOTTOM:0px;} #yiv2113157887 UL { MARGIN-TOP:0px;MARGIN-BOTTOM:0px;} Hi there, I have heard that, you can download the pyvnc2swf-py2exe from sourceforge.net,it works well on Windows. 2008-09-09 254463387 发件人: ciro bonano 发送时间: 2008-09-09 03:21:07 收件人: vnc2swf-users 抄送: 主题: [Vnc2swf-users] Installing latest version on Win32 Hi, I'm trying to install the latest version on Windows, to be able to convert to flv. Hi. Just for information: -t shape -> creates rectangular objects similar to updates sent by vnc server. Object limit can be a problem. By default mouse pointer movements doesn't create new objects but just moves it. Creates a swf file. -t video -> creates a video stream inside a swf file. Doesn't use rectangular objects. Uses a screen record/playback codec which basically splits the screen in small areas and writes the updates for each area on every frame. Object limit is not a problem since it doesn't create objects. Mouse pointer movements are treated as regular screen updates. Creates a swf file. -t flv -> creates a video stream in a flv file. Same as -t video except that the container is FLV. Sound hasn't been implemented in pvnc2swf for this. Vnc2swf tries to remove updates that get totally covered by other updates between frames (updated rectangle ends up totally behind other rectangles). This is just a basic optimization. Maybe there could be implemented a better optimization that tries to reduce the number of objects created but this could be complex. Regards, Luis Fernando ----- Mensagem original ---- De: Nitin Chandrachoodan <ni...@ee...> Para: General discussion about vnc2swf <vnc...@li...> Enviadas: Domingo, 24 de Agosto de 2008 1:55:09 Assunto: Re: [Vnc2swf-users] Res: AssertionError limits recording time Thanks for the informative replies. As pointed out by you, I think the problem was that writing using a tablet creates too many small objects, causing the limit to be exceeded independent of the frames. I then tried recording to .vnc format and then converting to .swf with vnc2swf-edit, and when I use the -V option (video) it seems to work well. I had not realized that the -t video would still result in .swf, I thought it meant it would create .flv. I assume this means that directly recording to .swf with -t video will give the same effect - namely size limited by number of frames, not objects? Could the source be modified to count the update frames until it's reached max, then either exit gracefully or start recording to a new file? I think that would be a more useful behavior than AssertionError. I already imagine the answer is yes, but how could we go about this? One issue with automatic recording to a new file is requesting a new frame update at the start, otherwise the new film could start out fragmented. ----- Original Message ----- From: lfk...@ya... If the flv recording mode gets around the object limit you might be able use the method that worked for me: http://excess.org/article/2008/07/creating-high-resolution-screencasts-vnc2swf/ Maybe change the "vnc2swf -n -o tutorial.swf .." to "vnc2swf -n -o tutorial.flv .." instead of converting in the next step? I record audio separately and use the flv format because the flash player I use requires flv. When I used this method (unmodified) I was able to record more than 80 minutes. However, it might have worked for me because of the really basic window manager that the presenter used (less rectangles). Hi, VNC protocol uses rectangles to send screen updates to the client. When you record or transform into shape format (not video), vnc2swf creates a swf object for each rectangle. Usually there are many rectangles in each screen update when the screen changes often but there may be none when the screen is not updated. One thing many people don't realize is that any icon or label that changes very often (such as network connection icon or even the clock with seconds or even msn) and is not related to the recording may be increasing the size of the recording and the number of objects created. So anything that changes on screen causes a rectangle update. The size of the rectangle depends on the area changed. It the small areas far apart change, there will be two rectangle updates. If they are close, there may be just one. I suggest removing icons that are not necessary while recording. What I want to say is that frame count is not the only limiting factor. I think that object count is even more important and it is probably what's been limiting the recordings. You could try converting to video format, or even to flv (audio not supported yet). They won't have the object count limit (I think). Good luck! Luis Fernando ----- Mensagem original ---- De: Nitin Chandrachoodan <ni...@ee...> Para: vnc...@li... I think this might be related to a problem I had. At the default frame rate, it will only record for about 22 minutes. This is because the maximum number of frames allowed in SWF. For more info: "The issue is due to the size limitation of swf files. An swf file can have a maximum of 16,000 frames. vnc2swf records at 12 frames per second. The math for 12 frames per seconds equals about 22mins of recording time before you hit the max. see this link for more information: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_14437" If you change the framerate in vnc2pwf though you will be able to record for a longer period of time without worrying about having to gracefully exit. Folks, Recording via vnc2swf.py to format .swf after 30 minutes causes the swf to be corrupted during later ticks. Is there a way to limit the recording to 30 minutes so that it exits gracefully? I forgot it's only an experimental feature I did locally and I haven't tested it much. Now I uploaded the changes to CVS, so here's the instruction: 1. Install a package called pymedia (www.pymedia.org). 2. do the following: $ cvs -d:pserver:ano...@vn...:/cvsroot/vnc2swf login $ cvs -d:pserver:ano...@vn...:/cvsroot/vnc2swf co pyvnc2swf 3. cd to pyvnc2swf/pyvnc2swf/ directory and you should be able to recording: $ ./pyvnc2swf.py -n -o out.mpeg :0 Again, this feature is still pretty much experimental. I don't have a time to test/check the correctness of the output right now... Yusuke |

Hello Luis, Thank you for your work on the flv code! The screen recording/playback mode was the reason I wanted to use pyvnc2swf. I ran into problems with pyvnc2swf's built-in playback code and being able to export to flv let me use an external player, avoiding those issues. I worked around the lack of audio support by using ffmpeg instead of mencoder. mencoder was producing files only mplayer could play, but ffmpeg worked perfectly. I used a command like: ffmpeg -i video.flv -i voice.mp3 -acodec copy -vcodec copy out.flv Here is the result: http://excess.org/article/2008/07/oclug-june-kernel-walkthrough/ I had to manually clip the audio to match the video, but that's not a big problem. The only issue remaining for me is what appears to be a memory leak in pyvnc2swf during recording. It would be nice if I could just let it run for a couple hours without restarting the capture. I will post some step-by-step instructions to my site and this list some time soon. Hi Ian, Audio in FLV output hasn't been implemented. Some time ago there were some requests for implementing flv output to pvnc2swf. I had some spare time so I played with it a bit and managed to make it work. I sent the modifications to the list to check if that was what they wanted. Yusuke included it in a new release some time after that. The flv format allows two types of encoding. One is for video in general, used by YouTube. The other was designed for screen recording/playback. That's the one pvnc2swf uses. And that's why some people complained that the flv file generated by pvnc2swf didn't play in some players when using flv codec. The problem is that the codec being used didn't implement this encoding format. I had planned to work in the sound part after making sure the video part was ok. But nobody said anything about it. Actually after some time some people complained that it didn't play in some players. So I ended up losing interest in it. But if there is interest for this I can at least take a look at it again. When I convert my .swf file to a .flv file I lose the audio. I tried adding the audio before converting, at the same time, and after converting all with the same result. Is there something I'm missing or has adding audio to flv files not been implemented? (I also tried using mencoder to add the audio, which worked with mplayer but not with other flash players) Ian Ian Ward wrote: > Hello, > > I have recorded a presentation using vnc2swf and I nam having trouble > with playback on some browsers, some of the time. > > I have posted the .swf files here: > > http://excess.org/kernel-walkthrough/2008-06-26-pres/ > http://excess.org/kernel-walkthrough/2008-06-26-code1/ > http://excess.org/kernel-walkthrough/2008-06-26-code2/ > > The current issue I'm having is with seeking. Now I've run into something else. When I convert my .swf file to a .flv file I lose the audio. I tried adding the audio before converting, at the same time, and after converting all with the same result. Is there something I'm missing or has adding audio to flv files not been implemented? Thanks Barry, I am going to convert all the videos to flash video and use a different player. I was concerned that video quality would be degraded, but it looks fine. I'll pass along your suggestion to Bart. I would have been a much worse presenter than he was! Ian |
