I've installed pygame-1.7.0-py2.3-macosx10.3.zip and PIL-1.1.5-py2.3-macosx10.3.zip from http://pythonmac.org/packages/ then I symlink both from /Library/Python/2.3/ to /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.3/Extras/lib/python. When I run pyvnc2swf.py I get this error: $ /Applications/pyvnc2swf-0.7.0/vnc2swf.py -o out.swf localhost:6 Using pygame 1.7.0 /Applications/pyvnc2swf-0.7.0/image.py:44: RuntimeWarning: tp_compare didn't return -1 or -2 for exception assert (1,6) <= pygame.vernum, 'we need pygame 1.6 or newer.' Either Pygame or Python Imaging Library is required. How can I solve it? Thanks in advance, C. |

This is with the latest release (0.70) on Windows. Following the advice of a previous post, I changed edit.py, line 140, to: fp =3D file(v, 'rb') That took care of my problem. I record my audio using Audacity, using the default settings, export from Audacity to MP3 using ID3v2, and it works very well. -- Stephen Schaub |

I have no Windows environment so I was testing on VMware with a fairly small screen size (640x480)... But it's strange. I think 1280x1024 should fit in the memory. I was able to record my entire 1280x1024 desktop on Linux machines. Is there something which limits Python's memory in Windows? Yusuke |

Hi, I am trying to use vnc2swf -0.6.4 with Python 2.3.5, PIL 1.1.5 , Windows XP I get the error below ? Many thanks for the reply. No worries on the delay, the tool is worth the short wait! The memory problem does seem to be confined to my laptop. The unusual feature of my laptop is the screen resolution. At 1900x1440 it is larger than most? Only thinking to try now, I've not been able to get the VNC viewer to view my machine from another either, though viewing my own machine - what a screen mess - works OK. I'm guessing that my MP3 files are in the wrong format as I see examples on the web from people successfully using the Python version of vnc2swf. I'm using audacity and exporting in the two formats they support (ID3 version 1, ID3 version 2). Can someone tell me how they are making their MP3 files? I see that I'm not supposed to use "variable bitrate" but I don't know if I am, or how t= o prevent it. Here's the output of an attempt at adding sound with ID3v2: $ python edit.py -o test-audio.swf -a test-2.mp3 test.swf Using pygame 1.6.2 Reading mp3 file: 'test-2.mp3'... read: [73, 68, 51, 4] : 'ID3=04' read: [0, 0, 0, 0] : '' Traceback (most recent call last): File "edit.py", line 173, in ? if __name__ =3D=3D "__main__": main(sys.argv[1:]) File "edit.py", line 126, in main info.reg_mp3blocks(fp) File "/home/dblank/Desktop/pyvnc2swf-0.6.4/movie.py", line 83, in reg_mp3blocks MP3Reader(self.mp3).read_mp3file(fp, length, nsamples, seeksamples) File "/home/dblank/Desktop/pyvnc2swf-0.6.4/mp3.py", line 153, in read_mp3file assert (h & 0xffe00000L) =3D=3D 0xffe00000L, '!Frame Sync: %r' % x AssertionError: !Frame Sync: '\x00\x00\x00\x00 The version ID3v1 seems to have about 418 bytes of \x00 on the front, which causes the same error above. mplayer plays both versions of my test files fine. It looks like the MP3 in Python isn't quite finished; is that correct? I have tried variations of different versions of MP3 and none work. It look= s like the interface has changed too. I tried: python mp3.py file.mp3 but that had some confusion about what class was doing the reading. Also, if you use file("filename") it doesn't open the file up in read binary mode "rb" which I think you need. When I try to attach the mp3: python edit.py -d -a file.mp3 -C 800x600+0+0 -o ch-01-01b.swf file.swf I get errors on rates being equal to None, and looks like the MP3 isn't initialized correctly. This is a very nice idea; it would be great to get this into a useable state! I'd be glad to help with the interface once it works. Thanks, -Doug |

I've been able to record a VNC session from remote servers running on both Windows 2000 and Windows 2003. As a result, I have three questions I'd welcome your comments on: 1) Memory error When I try to use vnc2swf on my machine I get the "memory error" message that has been reported in this list before. My machine is setup using the same version of VNC (4.1.1) as I've used on the remote servers and, apart from the host name, uses the same command. The only difference is that on my machine I've set the VNC server to accept local connections. My machine is a laptop with a 1900x1600 screen so I'm wondering if this is a possible cause of the problem? I've tried to use the "clipping" option to limit the scope of the recording of the local session but it doesn't help. The laptop has 1GB RAM so I don't think memory itself is going to be the problem. 2) Record clipping not yet supported? I've tried using the clipping region option on the stream from one of the remote servers and it appears to be ignored when recording using the VNC recording mode. Is that right? 3) Edit clipping supported? Clipping seems to work in edit.py when converting a .vnc file to a .swf. However the recorded size of the swf retains the size of the original recording and only the clipped region is displayed. The rest of the swf display is black. For example, suppose you record from a VNC session with a geometry of 1024x768. You then convert the .vnc to a .swf using a clipping region of, say, 640x480+0+0. When the resulting swf is played, the swf window is still 1024x768 though the only area used to display the movie is the specified clipping region. The area to the right and bottom - outside the clipping area - is black. What should I be doing to have the final swf have a window size that is the same as the clipping area? Or it is even possible?
