Hello List, Mr Newbie here,,to vnc2swf. Ok, got pyvnc2swf-0.8.1 installed nicely and opens an appears to run correctly. Click the start button>>> capture,,> click STOP. WHen i go to click on the newly created HTML file.( saved as=20 Shape/SWF,also as just SWF from the GUI),.the captures shows only the login screen to the server my vnc session is connected to.( The capture does NOT show the actual desktop, im working on). I m sure i need to start another vnc server session,,but cant figure out how to? I did try "vncserver:2 start", and looks like a second vncserver started correctly,on this server? This looks like a slick product to use,, for help desk,,,etc.. this is on Fedora Core 3 K12LTSP,,implementaion. Im guessing beings this is a thin client server ,,,this VNC server has .."special" vnc server running to let thin clients login.. Any ideas would be appreciated... Thank You, Barry Cisna |

It is pygame library that grabs the sound channel. You can prevent this by inserting a line at l.44 in image.py: pygame.init() pygame.mixer.quit() # add this line HTH Yusuke |

Hi all, Hopefully I didn't miss this in the docs or list but what I would like to do is record the xmms graphics but I don't need the sound. The end purpose is using ksysguard to demonstrate the effects of streaming audio on network bandwidth. The process would be to start the video, capture ksysguard for several seconds without the stream, start the stream, let the stream end, capture ksysguard for a few seconds without the stream and end the video. Unfortunately pyvnc2swf ties up the sound driver so that xmms is unable to start the stream. I tried several other media players with the same result. Any ideas on the best way to go about this? Hello, If I scale (scale down or scale up) the window of a file, which was provided with VNC2SWF, the quality of contents becomes bad (Text becomes almost unreadable). Does someone now how to overcome that problem? Thanks Ranrul --------------------------------- Nouveau : téléphonez moins cher avec Yahoo! Messenger ! Actually I changed the option a bit in 0.8.1. You need to use '-t mpeg' instead '-M', since I didn't want to increase the number of letters as we support more formats. But in 0.8.1, it does guess the output type from a filename. So you don't need to specify this. Hi, did anyone try the mpeg encoding on windows yet? I tried but got an empty file.. I also don't get any error messages. I tried on one machine using the precompiled pymedia libs and on my machine I compiled them myself using VC7.1 I used a commandline like this: edit.py -o test5.mpg test5.swf also tried edit.py -o test5.mpg test5.vnc=20 not sure whether this one is supported :) anyhow, no results=20 any hints? matthias ps: for recording I used realvnc |

Hi Neal, Which version of pyvnc2swf did you use? I think the latest version (0.8.1) tries to save the swf correctly even when a socket error has occured. So please update to 0.8.1, and if the problem still persists, could you run it on a dos prompt window and send me the error message please? Thank you all for your time well spent on this project... It works excellent!!! I am using the program for remote monitoring of an employee. The only problem I am encountering is if the employee's system is shutdown during the recording session, pyvnc2swf reports a socket.error and closes without finishing the swf file or it's accompanying html. When this happens I can not view the swf through the web browser (flash plugin for IE 6)... However I can view it through play.py. Also, if I run the swf through the edit.py program, it seems to fix it, and it is able to be played in IE. It appears that when the program encounter the disconnection it is reported as a socket error (which, of course it is) then terminates... It looks like all that would be needed is a call to the swf & html writing code after the connection terminates and the error is reported. Not sure where that code is and I am not a py programmer so I am not of much assistance there... But atleast this should give you a starting point. I am recording in swf "video" format on a Windows XP SP2 system with firewall turned off from a Windows 98 SE system with UltraVNC. I am using the command pyvnc2swf -N -n -t video -o c:\test.swf remotecomputername. I am viewing the swf with a Windows XP SP2 system with firewall turned off using IE 6 SP1 and Flash Player 7. Thanks again for such a great product!!! |

Hi - I should have sent this mail ages ago, but anyway: thanks a lot for vnc2swf, it works perfectly and it has made a program of mine accessible to a much larger audience... I live in Brazil, where the computer people are either W$ users or sysadmins, and when confronted with anyone who writes programs that are longer than 10 lines they look in awe and start to refer to that person as a "developer"... Using animations made with vnc2swf I am able to use the two minutes of attention that I can get from those people to get the message across. Thanks, thanks, thanks. The program can't be explained in a few lines so here are some links. http://angg.twu.net/eev-current/anim/channels.anim.html http://angg.twu.net/eev-current/anim/gdb.anim.html http://angg.twu.net/ Cheers! I'm not farmiliar with Windows development, but having an independent process handle audio is apparently unix-dependent, as in Windows creating a new process is rather expensive and you cannot have much control by passing commandline arguments. It's okay for me to put some Windows or OSX-dependent code if they're small enough and well separated from the main component (so that you can optionally choose it). I'm curious about what Windows/OSX programmers would do with Python when they need to talk with external library/process. Probably things like COM or AppleEvent will be the candidates in this case. Is anyone farmiliar with them? Yusuke db...@br... wrote: > Speaking of adding audio, I know that one of the main reasons for going to > Python is that it is cross-platform. I'm not sure about which part you mentioned looks ugly, but it sometimes depends the image capturing algorithm of each vnc server. Recently I tried TightVNC and found it's suitable for recording. It supports cursor encoding, and seems it gives a bit more control for capturing method than RealVNC. Speaking of adding audio, I know that one of the main reasons for going t= o Python is that it is cross-platform. However, one of the biggest problems I see in using vnc2swf is that you have to deal with the audio separately= . What can we do to try to bring audio into the SWF creation process in an easy-to-use, yet cross-platform manner? It wouldn't be too bad to define an external command (so that each platform could define it in whatever manner they wish). On the other hand, I don't mind having separate methods for getting audio into the process for the big three platforms (OS X, Linux, and Windows). (In fact, I don't mind working on a Linux-only method, as that is the onl= y platform I use.) What can be done to bring audio into the recording process? -Doug |

Hi there! At first, I'd like to congratulate you by the great work you've done so f= ar. I've seen an interesting feature in some commercial products that emphasi= ses mouse clicks by showing a red circle whose center is the mouse location a= t that moment. I know this is not so important, but it is an interesting feature. If it doesn't take too much time... :) Thank you! -- Fabiano Caixeta Duarte Se=E7=E3o T=E9cnica de Inform=E1tica FEA-RP/USP |

Hi, pyvnc2swf-0.8.1 is out. This is a mostly bugfix release. I fixed a couple of bugs pointed by Luis and Andy. And Vincent's mpeg encoding patch is now working perfectly! (Actually, I had a mistake when I incorporated his patch into the source - sorry) http://www.unixuser.org/~euske/vnc2swf/pyvnc2swf-0.8.1.tar.gz I changed the option for encoding type so it takes "-t mpeg" to generate a mpeg movie instead of "-M". Thanks, Yusuke |

Hi, currently it not possible to scale recordings other then factor 0.5 When I use a scale-factor 0.8 it looks ugly (this is already reported in th= e documentation). I was just wondering if this is something that can be changed in the future or is there no way to overcome this limitation? Scalling to a surtain sice would be great :-) Kind Regards, Andreas |

Hi, the recordings produced with the new phyton vnc2swf look almost perfect, except when I roll-over the menus from the applications I record. Is there anything I can do about that issue? Is it the same with all VNC-Servers? I'm currently using RealVNC. Thanks for any suggestions. Kind Regards, Andreas |
