Well, the input does not have to be VNC then.
This kind of expansion is tempting and you can go on and on.
But, IMO it's better to stick with a few de-facto standard
(actually, fewer is better!) formats to keep the task manageable.

I've seen a quite few open source projects which have got
a really ambitious plan and never be finished.
