I'm running into a problem that has been reported many times before, but no clear solution has been provided.
I have installed
and configured /etc/vnc.conf according to instructions of http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/VNC.
Well, first thing I was wondering: on this Ubuntu release, /etc/vnc.conf was not available after installation.
I had a backup of a previous installation, so this is no issue.
The issue is:
When I start the remote session on client with xtightvncviewer host:display, I get a window with a terminal box and a $ prompt, which I could enter command line commands.
After some modification in ~/.vnc/xstartup, I only get a grey screen with a mouse pointer:
[ -r $HOME/.Xresources ] && xrdb $HOME/.Xresources
xsetroot -solid grey
vncconfig -iconic &
x-terminal-emulator -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title "$VNCDESKTOP Desktop" &
What needs to be configured in ~/.vnc/xstartup to start a remote session with GNOME desktop?
