I don't have numbers for you right now, Nik, but I have seen noticeable
performance gains with the tightVNC or even UltraVNC
(http://www.ultravnc.com <http://www.ultravnc.com/> ) with the video
driver and tight compression turned on. The latest versions of RealVNC4
seem to have made some pretty good improvements, also, though. For me
and my networks, we use UltraVNC.
More than just a VNC Manager...

Subject: RealVNC v.s. TightVNC ... v.s. NX/freeNX
I am trying to pick the right VNC software for low bandwidth, high
I was looking at RealVNC but I don't think that it provides a file
transfer capability, which is why I started looking at TightVNC. I am
trying to find a compare/contrast analysis between the two but could
not. Can somebody provide some insight on what the
advantages/disadvantages of using one versus the other are - key
aspects, I guess, are performance, usibility, secutiry, other...
I also stumbled on NX / freeNX, which claims that they have the best X
compression algorithm and achieve near local speed application
responsiveness even over low bandwidth, high latency wires. Does anybody
know how TightVNC compares to NX as far as performance goes.
Thanks for your input.=20
