A centralized repository for OpenVMS based Open Source ports and Freeware. Intended to provide a focus for Open Source development on and porting to OpenVMS as well as a mechanism to prevent orphaned software in this environment.

Any and all OpenVMS based Open Source and Freeware can be hosted here.

VMS-Ports is a complement to the SourceForge GNV Project (https://sourceforge.net/projects/gnv/) which implements a framework based upon GNU utilities to ease the porting of open source software packages to OpenVMS.

  • @Neil I don't think VMS people hate open software but I do agree, they don't embrace it for all it's goodness It comes from VMS having good tools of it's own but those tools have fallen behind over the years I've recently discovered AWK on VMS nd use it a lot now. It enables fast action on files that would take me forever to do in pure DCL All the VMS port of AWK needs is for a way to easily populate symbols from within AWK and it would be even more powerful VMS people need to embrace open tools + use the existing VMS tools and their productivity would increase VSI also need to update the VMS documentation using open source tools, that way VMS folk would see the open tools as just more ways to be more productive rather than discover them later like I did after way too many trying to work just with the existing VMS tools alone VMS tools + open source tools = increased productivity Thank you to all the people here who give their time to produce these open source tools on VMS!!!!
  • Not sure why many OpenVMS hate third-party software but I love the efforts by people here porting third-party software into the OpenVMS ecosystem.
  • VMS forever!!!
  • Excellent source of information for the OpenVMS technical comunity.
