Why VSS

Florian Schwander

Why VSS?

In combination with a basic CPR-manikin, Vital Sign Simulator offers you about 80% of the capability of a commercial high-tech manikin for a fraction of the cost.

When to use VSS

  • If you want to train emergency medicine scenarios, but don't have the 10'000 - 100'000 $ for a commercial high-tech manikin
  • If you want to train algorithms or team-interaction rather than the actual handling of devices
  • If you want to teach common emergency scenarios, like bradycardia, tachycardia, asystolie etc etc
  • VSS can also be used without a full-scale simulation, eg as visualisation in the classroom for theory-lessons. As it works without a manikin, you can also conduct "verbal" simulations, where the trainees only tell what they would do when seeing the displayed vital signs without actually performing the action

When not to use VSS

  • If you have tons and tons of money to spend, a commercial high-tech simulation manikin still is the better choice!
  • If you want to train the use of real monitoring equipment or defibrillators. VSS is no alternative to hands-on-training using your life-saving devices! VSS can be used to teach what to do, not how.
  • If you want to train with a wide variety of ECG-rhythm samples or "exotic" rhythms. VSS contains only one set of only the "basic" ECG-rhythms.
  • If you want to perform "mobile" simulations, eg. moving the patient to another room or an ambulance. The necessary computer and monitors are not really easy to move and will only go as far as the power cord allows...
