We are currently developing version 0.50.07 in the CVS repository, and although it may seem like an unstable build, it is very stable right now. If you would like to test out the latest CVS build, you need a C# compiler, but you can use #Develop for this if you have no other option.
Please check out the wiki if you have any questions as to how to checkout the source from CVS. I will have a small page about it up later today.... read more
I have just released Visual Whois v0.04. A lot has changed since the last release. Please check out the readme file for more information. Also, I have uploaded some screenshots to the project here on sourceforge. Please check them out if you want some indication as to what the project is for.
If you run into any errors while using Visual Whois or while starting Visual Whois (missing dependencies, etc...), please let me know (foo-bar-var@comcast.net). Also, remember that you will need the .NET framework for this application to run.
To anyone interested in this project, I appologize for the lack of updates. I am renewing development on viswhois with a new CVS repository (viswhois instead of whois) and a new programming language (Java).
The planned features have changed as well as the basic design of the application. As far as the basic design goes, the most important change is in the UI. WHOIS information is no longer parsed into various fields. The entire application has moved more towards a tool for people / companies searching for a domain name.... read more
The third release for Visual WHOIS has been released. It is not a very big release, as it only adds parsing for Administrative information.
I would also like to add a bit of a roadmap here, showing some of the features I would like to add before leaving alpha status and entering the production status:
v0.04
- Technical Contact parsing
- More "synonyms" for other parsed fields
- Name Server parsing... read more
This is only the second release of Visual WHOIS, but I feel it is starting to become a more and more stable application. There are not a lot of changes between this release and the last, but the most notable change is that you may now change the WHOIS server from which your WHOIS information will be retrieved from. Smaller changes include better information parsing.
This is the very first release of Visual WHOIS, so I dont expect it to go perfectly. All I hope is that it works for some people (hopefully the majority of people). See release notes for feature information, or just take a look at the included readme file. Please submit a bug report if you happen to come across problems.
As for the next release, I plan on getting it out hopefully within this next week. It will include more parsing, at the least. If I happen to get more in I will let you all know.
During the weekend I was able to create a new parsing method, although it may be changed at a later point in time. For now, it works, so I am happy with it. I may put a new release out tomorrow (01-13-04) or wednesday (01-14-04).
After this current planned release, I am hoping to add more functionality to parse more data, and display it in an organized fashion. Here is a list of currently supported features:... read more
So far everything is riding smoothly. The code in CVS is working quite well, so feel free to checkout and build. I am planning on rewriting the code that retrieves WHOIS information, so that I can hopefully parse the data in a more optimized manner.
Hopefully within a week or so I will have something (re)written which will parse through at least registrant contact and owner information.
