Hi,
I'm french, so sorry for my English vocabulary. Since I'm under W 8.1, VSS 1.0.1 keeps crashing. I can not use it more than 2 or 3 minutes without bug. So I am forced to close it to open and start over. I'm trying to pull my hair because at this rate, my subtitle are not ready to be finished. If someone could help me ...

Hi, do you have more information about the crash?
Does it happen on a specific sequence of actions?
Do you have a crash report?
Is it with a specific video file ?

So for starters, I have no error report. When the software hangs, I am obliged to close because I have a window that says "VSS stopped working". The problem occurs when I work in the subtitle window or when using keys "forward" and "back" of the software. (see screenshot).
The video on which I work is a "avi" file. In fact, it is an MKV file VSS but does not recognize it, I can convert it. Yet I installed the codecs MatroskaSplitter but it does not. I never much problem since I passed under W8.1.

I can see that the "play" button is greyed out, so something is wrong when VSS load your video file.
It's very likely a codec problem, you can find more info here : http://www.visualsubsync.org/tutorials/codecs
To get the list of currently used codecs in VSS you can do "View>Show/Hide Logs" then "Debug>List used DirectShow filters.."
ffdshow ( http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/ ) OR LAVFilters ( https://github.com/Nevcairiel/LAVFilters/releases ) is probably what you need to install but it's been a long time since I have used codecs on Windows.
You may also have to change the codec priorities (Win7DSFilterTweaker : http://codecguide.com/windows7_preferred_filter_tweaker.htm).
Thank you for your help. I was starting to install LAV Filters and the good news is that it recognizes the MKV files, so need to convert. For the rest, I would tell you tomorrow because, I'm tired. I spent the day on my PC and I start seeing double. Thx
Hi it's me again.
Still problem with VSS. After my first rated project, I went to another and there surprise, still the same problem that recurs MKV is not recognized. Even worse the AVI file is not supported either. It was my last solution so that I can not do anything. I have done nothing. The codecs are installed on your advice LAVFiters is all gone well, I did not do anything more, I do not see why nothing works..
The different codec installed are LAVFilters-0.65-install, Haali Media Spliter / MatroskaSplitter and ffdshow_rev4532_20140717_clsid. I tried to change the codec priorities with Win7DSFilterTweaker but I hardly understood anything. Can help me or possibly directed me towards someone because I really starts tired of trying to find his own solution.

Ok merci, c'est vrai qu'avec un nom comme le tiens...
Voilà, jette un oeil sur la capture, vraiment je ne comprends pas pourquoi la liste est vide puisque j'ai les codecs suivant installés :
Ils sont dans le dossier Program Files (x86) mais peut-être qu'il faut les mettre dans celui de VSS ??
Non pas besoins de les déplacer, c'est Windows qui gère.
Le mieux c'est peut être de désinstaller proprement les 3 et d'installer uniquement LAV Filters qui gère à peu près tous.
Tester ensuite VSS, si ça fonctionne pas, un outils intéressant pour débugger est GraphStudio :

Avec cet outil, tu peux construire pas à pas le graph utilisé pour la lecture du fichier et ainsi voir ou cela ne fonctionne pas.
Construction du graph en manuel :
"Graph>Insert Filter..."
1) "LAV Splitter Source" "Insert" (choisir fichier video)
2) "LAV Audio Decoder" "Insert"
3) "LAV Video Decoder" "Insert"
Puis connecter :
4) LAV Splitter Source (Video) -> (Input) LAV Video Decoder
5) LAV Splitter Source (Audio) -> (Input) LAV Audio Decoder
6) Et faire clic droit "Render Pin" sur les "Output".
7) Faire lecture.
Si une des étapes se passe mal cela nous donne une indication.
Si ça se passe bien, essayer la construction auto avec "File>New", "File>Render Media File...". C'est ce que va faire VSS. Si ça se passe mal c'est un problème de priorité des filtres.

J'ai essayé ce que tu m'a dis à savoir, j'ai viré les codecs pour installé uniquement LAV mais toujours le même problème. Je suis allé voir du côté de GraphStudio mais franchement comment utiliser un outils si je ne peux pas le télécharger. Bref, je suis encore largué...

Je suis désolé de te déranger une fois de plus mais, il faut vraiment m'aider en détail car je ne suis pas prêt de trouver la solution au problème. Après avoir ouvert GraphStudio, j'ai suivi l'étape

Dans la liste de gauche tu choisis "LAV Splitter Source"
puis tu clic sur "Insert" et tu choisis ton fichier video.
Pareil pour "LAV Audio Decoder" "Insert"
et "LAV Video Decoder" "Insert".
Tu fermes la boite de dialogue puis tu connectes les filtres, comme sur l'image suivante pour le principe : http://blog.monogram.sk/janos/download/tools/graphstudio.png mais en suivant les connexions que j'ai indiqué.

Je ne t'avais pas répondu mais, pour cette étape tout c'est bien passé. Je viens aussi d'essayé depuis le nouveau problème et ça fonctionne aussi. RDV sur l'autre ticket pour la suite...
