The good news is, I have been able to get
fair-to-decent results grabbing VPython
animations to video using CamStudio:

The bad news is, the program exists only
in Windows, and I don't know of anyone
working on a Linux port yet. The license
is GNU GPL, so there shouldn't be any
problems if someone wants to jump in.
Maybe one of you computer science teachers
out there would like to offer class credit
to some hot-shot students willing to try?
