The problems I reported with VPython on Leopard (clipping plane errors,
etc.) aren't due to Leopard after all. I retreated to Tiger (clean
install), installed visual-py25, and saw exactly the same set of
problems. After searching a bit, I found that other OpenGL applications
(notably Second Life) have serious problems with Apple's OpenGL driver
for the GeForce 8600M GT graphics card in the MacBook Pro (2.2 or 2.4
GHz Intel Core Duo). Apple has not (yet) provided an updated graphics
driver.
Seems like Macintosh is the machine for "the rest of us" only if we are
willing to restrict ourselves to applications starting with "i".
