Thanks for pointing out this bug. Here are two work-arounds:
1) Put the helix in a frame, and rotate the frame object.
2) Rotate the axis of the helix:
h = helix()
h.axis = rotate(h.axis, angle=pi/2., axis=(0,0,1))
