Not a direct answer to your question, but of possible interest: It
appears that Red Hat 8.0 has FINALLY decided to switch everything to=20
Python 2.2, and has symbolic links between "python", "python2" and=20
some other variant ("python2.2" I think). So some of the reason for
sticking with both 1.5.2 and 2.x has gone away.
