I had this exact same problem. Python 2.4 is installed correctly =

went on to install other python packages that found it without trouble. =

was able to install vpython on other WinXP PCs where I had admin access =

on the one where I didn't vpython failed to install.=20

now i installed an older version of Python (2.3.5) along with different 
site packages and also VPython-2003-10-05.exe.
with the current version of python (2.4.1) it didn't work out, even with 
new installation and admin rights...

Each build of Visual is specific to a particular minor version of Python
(eg, works with 2.3.1, and 2.3.5, but not 2.4.anything or 2.2.anything)
