Just downloaded vpython recently, and ran a few demos. Really well done! Is there any possibility of allowing imports of 3d models from standard files (3ds, etc). Robert |

Welcome to the VPython mailing list. (Note the name change: Visual Python is now VPython.) This is a forum for questions about using VPython, suggestions for new features, and reports of problems. Bruce Sherwood |

You might want to rename VisualPython before widespread release. There is activity reported at ActiveState (http://www.activestate.com/) in which they plan to use "Visual Python" and "Visual Perl" to indicate using Micro$oft's Visual programming IDE for those languages. You might consider 3D-Python or VR-Python or some such moniker so that you can achieve name recognition. Although I hate to leave M$ with the ground, this is probably not a battle we'd want to fight. This is a fantasic idea and I'm looking forward to using this. -Larry Martin, Ph.D. Professor of Physics North Park University Dept. of Physics, box 30 3225 West Foster Ave. Chicago, IL 60625-4895 (773) 244-5668 FAX (773) 279-7952 http://www.admin.northpark.edu/LMartin LM...@no... <mailto:LM...@no...> |

You aren't supposed to need to uninstall Tcl/Tk; \Python\lib\lib-tk\FixTk.py is supposed to locate the correct DLLs. Obviously I need to work on that :) Dave |

Bingo! Thanks... I've got an IDLE window now. I don't remember anything advising me to uninstall Tcl and Tk when I uninstalled Python--I probably should have realized, but you might want to emphasize that in your download/install instructions. The only thing I can think of that could cause this behavior is a stray tcl80.dll and/or tk80.dll left over from your previous installation. Somehow Python may be finding those instead of the correct ones, which should be in c:\Python\tcl\bin. If you can't find extra DLLs on your system, let me know and I'll try to think of something else. Dave |
