That is very strange, since the Apple-distributed GCC 3.1 does support
iterator traits.

About 9/10 down config.log (produced by configure) there should be a verbose
description of the error produced by the failed check.  It starts with
"configure:9419: checking whether the C++ library supports iterator traits"
and should reveal the error.
