With hundreds of student users and many others including myself I've not seen the problem you report, at least using the idlefork version distributed with VPython. Sounds idiosyncratic to your installation, somehow. No clue what the problem could be. The very severe problems you describe in the recent alpha distribution of idlefork are being worked on intensely.
