I wouldn't think that this is a graphics card program, because no graphics are involved in simply importing visual, before actually creating an object (and window). I haven't upgraded to 9.10 yet, so I'll ask: When you say "package" do you mean that you used a python-visual package supplied with Ubuntu, rather than compiling from source?
