What is known so far is in this bug report and all the links therein:

There seems to be some incompatibility with python 2.6.3 and boost
python 1.38-1.40; many projects utilizing python boost seem to be
experiencing this.

You may have had an older version of boost that later got updated.  I
have confirmed that using the trunk version of boost fixes this,
although in windows you may need to downgrade boost to pre 1.38 (I
believe this is where the regression occured but it may have been 1.39)
