I've finally upgraded to Visual 5.1 and MacPython 2.6.2. I played with VIDLE and the only things about it I specifically noticed were that it doesn't have an IDLE icon (it has the generic Mac app icon instead) and there were two "Visual" entries under the Help menu in the stock Python 2.6.2 IDLE. I thought the latter might have something to do with the modified macosxSupport.py file I got from the VPython website (apparently it's not there now), so I copied that file over to its corresponding place in the Python 2.6.2 file structure and that fixed the problem in IDLE, but not in VIDLE. I'm guessing the Visual menu entry is already in VIDLE to begin with. Regarding Visual 5.1, I can now see something that resembles textures on objects, but I'm not sure they're rendering correctly.
