Hello all,
I'm very sorry about proplems with making this version. I don't know how it 
happened, but the files Makefile.am and Makefile.in in the main directory 
were wrong. In fact, they were copies of the files in drivers.

Sorry for this trouble.

libg++ is still needed. If you don't have it or want it, comment out the line
CXXFLAGS+=-Duse_string_2
and remove -lg++ from VISUAL_ldadd,
both in Makefile.am.
It should then use strings from libstdc++
