I wasn't able to get VirtualGL working on Ubuntu 13.04 using the current .deb versions of VirtualGL available from here: http://www.virtualgl.org/Downloads/VirtualGL
Then I found this page: http://bumblebee-project.org/install.html#Ubuntu
Not only does the Bumblebee version of VirtualGL work excellently on 13.04, I didn't even need to run vglserver_config.

Have you considered linking it on the VirtuaGL download section?

Relative to VGL, Bumblebee is mostly a downstream project, but apparently they also make some fixes and other modifications that are not communicated upstream, since this is the first I've heard of any issues with VGL under Ubuntu 13.04. How specifically did the packages fail? I'm just wondering whether it's a core VGL issue or perhaps just a packaging problem.

I am perfectly happy to merge in any bug fixes or even enhancements from that project, as long as they are a good fit for our project. For "plain vanilla" VirtualGL, running vglserver_config automatically isn't a good fit. I prefer to leave that decision up to the user, and also, our official packages can be used on a client machine as well, so it wouldn't be appropriate to run vglserver_config in that case.

If people choose to use Bumblebee, that's fine, but we don't officially support it. Their project focus is vastly different, and there is definitely some overlap, but not 100%.

You're going to have to provide more info about how VirtualGL isn't working, because it appears to work for me. vglserver_config properly configures the LightDM display manager, as it did under Ubuntu 12.xx, and I can properly access display :0 as long as I follow the instructions in the VGL User's Guide. I'm in a VM, so I can't fully test the operation of VGL, but at least the setup and install appears to work, and I can at least launch apps in the environment (they subsequently fail due to lack of functionality in the VBox 3D Guest Additions that VGL needs.)

Closing unless you have further information to share. I am unable to reproduce any problems with VGL on Ubuntu 13.04.
