#13 Abaqus 6.10 fails to display properly in TurboVNC

VirtualGL (44)

User reports that starting up Abaqus 6.10.1 in TurboVNC 1.0 beta 1 using VGL 2.2 beta 1 will return a couple of GLX errors:

X Error: code 1 major 0 minor 0: GLXBadContextState.
X Error: code 1 major 0 minor 0: GLXBadContextState.

and then the 3D window will appear as a separate empty window.

    Another user reports that adding

    import os
    os.environ['ABAQUS_EMULATE_OVERLAYS'] = "1"

    to the abaqus_v6.env file is necessary in order to make Abaqus v6 work with VirtualGL in a TurboVNC environment. VirtualGL handles overlays in a somewhat obtuse manner. Since the overlays can't be composited on the server, it has to forward through those calls to the "2D X server" and allow it to draw the overlay as it would if VirtualGL were not involved. This requires that the 2D X server have 3D capabilities and support for transparent overlay visuals. Most X proxies don't have 3D capabilities, and none of them have transparent overlay support, which is why the overlays have to be emulated in the application.

    Please re-open this bug if you find that the above solution does not fix the problem.
