In all the forms of linux running from a cd..... i have found the following to be true...
All have a few bugs....and the speed isn't quite as fast.....but very close...especially for Virtual-Linux. I personally haven't been able to install more packages with Virtual-Linux.....and burning another cd probably wouldn't do much good.....(unless your wanting to make your own version of a cd based linux...)
I have found that Virtual-Linux is a great way to test new machines for hardware compatiblity for regular linux......but as for the other way around... you just have to check all of your hardware and make sure it is linux compatible.
(Personally, I just pop the cd in and check it out...it doesn't hurt anything on my system, and requires just a few minutes anyway.)
Hope that helps.

You may use simple loop.o for create HDD based linux without partitioning HDD(but you must have botable minimalistik linux set, or modifyed setup)
both need some knowledge but not so many(in first case)
some minimalistik sets (URLS can be found at yahoo.com::"muLinux" - old kernel ;(
or some links at open.net::??? (have forgotten exactly place see operation systems)
with modifyed setup I wona some help if some one have this setup(that can `dd ...` && `mkext2 ...' on vfat first and mount it and make standart setup)
or I can help with this problem for RH72(but have no time)

ive never used Linux before but i want to try now, but without partitioning my drive.
i am runnung VL.
how does Cd-based Linux compare to a normal install on HDD stability and speed wise ?
can i install more packages ? where would it be installed to, hda1 ? or do i need to burn another CD ?
how do i know if my hardware is compatible ?
