I downloaded the installation zip file and uncompressed it. The unblock checkbox was already unblocked, so uncompressed into a directory. I double-clicked VirtualDesktopGridSwitcher.exe and nothing happened. I, as a user (it is my home computer) have read & execute and read permissions. What else should I be looking at & how can I get it to run?

It would probably do this if you just opened the. Zip instead of extracting
it to disk. Right click it to extract properly

Just re-read your message and you say you uncompressed into a directory so sounds like that's not the problem. You would not see anything if the system tray icon is hidden. Check the hidden system tray icons and drag it to be visible if it is not. Otherwise check task manager processes/details to see if it is running.

I realize this is an old thread, but I'm having exactly the same issue. I've got one Windows 11 machine where it is working perfectly; that was a a new install of Windows 11. On my laptop which was a Windows 10 -> Windows 11 upgrade, nothing happens. I briefly get the busy hourglass as it launches, but then nothing. Task Manager doesn't show it running.

I tried downloading a fresh copy, unblocking, then extracting, but nada.

I found some instructions on doing process audits (https://superuser.com/questions/603226/does-windows-log-programs-that-have-been-run-called), so I enable launch/termination audit logs and found this in the event viewer
    A process has exited.

    Process Name: C:\Users\roland\Desktop\VirtualDesktopGridSwitcher_v3.1.1.0\VirtualDesktopGridSwitcher.exe
    Exit Status: 0xE0434352

I found at least one site that claimed this might be an issue with my .NET installation. I've already gone through
    dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    as well as
    chkdsk /x /f /r
but I've still got the same issue :-(
