I started moving the IDE stuff to the new devices (again). I made meta includes (#include "meta/ide.h" includes all the ide functions) I eliminated the FS tree. I think that it needs to be reliant on stronger IDE functions, and, in addition, should be secondary to some more basic OS techs (fork() comes to mind). Good to be back. --Jack |

Hey Jack, welcome back ;) I hope #viridis would be back to action again.. I think we should start a wiki page for the project and also a TODO list just to keep track of things.. happy coding, arun On 7/17/06, Jack Miller <jj...@um...> wrote: > > Hi all. Hi all. I apologize for being delinquent this past few weeks, but it's a classic example of *ahem* real work getting in the way of fun work. The demo is due tomorrow (today? Monday? What time is it?) and the code has been ironed out, so I can stop pulling 70 hour weeks =P. Anyway, I'm back at it. Just FYI. |

Hi all, I know that this has been quite a low traffic list, but none of us have met each other. We've had quite an influx of interested people (who will hopefully get this). Anyway, it's Thursday and it's time to have a meeting. The last one was at Midnight EST, so I think that that time would still be good. As I don't have internet at home right now (I live in a hotel for this internship and they have done... something... to the wireless and there is no wired), I haven't been doing much of note, but I'd like to get a few things outlined tonight. If you can't make it, please toss me a mail, or show up in IRC sometime today. I'd appreciate the chance to talk to you all in real time =). --Jack |

Website is down, at least my domain got unregistered =P, I'm working on it, but you can reach the site, if you need to on my university ACM server: http://acm.cs.umr.edu/~jjm2n4/viridis/ On 6/19/06, Chirag Rajyaguru <chi...@gm...> wrote: > > Hey All, > > Is it just me or is the project website down...? > > C > > On 6/18/06, Jack Miller <jj...@um...> wrote: > > > Hi all. > > This weekend I started to move the IDE drivers over to the new device > management system. Hi all. This weekend I started to move the IDE drivers over to the new device management system. Unfortunately, for some reason, I broke the IDE read stuff... so it'll take a little work to get it integrated. Therefore, this weekend's commit is a pathetic one function. Anyway, I figure it's probably smart to keep you up to date with the dev stuff. It's a really simple linked list. Each device looks like this: struct device { struct device *next; char type[4]; void *data } where, obviously, next is the next device in the list (terminated by a NULL pointer), type is an identifier (ide0, for example) and data is a pointer to a device specific struct. In the IDE case, it looks like this. struct idedrive { uint device; uint drive; uint headspercylinder; uint sectorspertrack; } Of course, that's all the information collected right now, these can be expanded as necessary. This linked list is manipulated by the self explanatory adddev and rmdev, but also referenced by retdev. Retdev just takes the "type" again, ide0 for example, and returns the device struct. Easy enough. Later this week, I should have successfully migrated the IDE stuff. --Jack |

This is in direct response to Chirag's post (welcome!) but I figured this would be a good separate topic. Projects (in order of difficult... approximately) -Bugs (stress the shit out of Viridis, use functions in weird ways, break it) -Ext2 filesystem (partially completed, in tree) -IDE write -Device detection (IDE in particular) -Device management (I'm working on this one) -Process handling (this one too). -Better scheduler. -KThreads (I think Kevin -hyp- is gonna try this one) There's a whole lot to do, and I stress you don't have to stick with this list. Do whatever you want and submit the patches here, if it's good and it works, it'll be committed promptly. |

Hey Guys, This is Chirag, I guess I am the latest to join the club. I just finished my masters wherein operating systems was something that interested me. I am already working but want to do something fun on the side to keep me interested with life :P I am a slow starter so please bear with me. I will be reading up and getting upto the speed wiht the project and then will start with smaller projects, if there are any recommendations you have I would appreciate it. Meanwhile hope you guys enjoy the weekend Chirag |

Hi all. So Tuta's patches got applied, fixing some kprintf behavior, adding a banner, and shutting the Makefiles up. Revision 14 it was, but I had to get the Subversion repo cleaned up (I fucked up, I think), so now it's revision 1 =) |

I made a commit tonight that adds two dev functions. adddev(struct device *newdev) rmdev(struct dev *olddev) I'm sure you can guess what they do =P. Notes: The list of devices is headed by devlist, in include/globals.h. The function drivers/dev/devinit() initializes that to all null pointers and device type of 'n' 'u' 'l' 'l'. It functions as the end of the list. These two function are also untested. Cheers, Jack |
