As discussed in email, I've been having trouble getting xvl to run on my RedHat 7.0 machine (libxml2 2.2.7-1, glib-1.2.8 from helixcode). Incidentally, these don't match your versions in INSTALL, but if this is the issue, I'm hoping something can be done to remedy this.

Basically, what happens is it compiles without error, but then when run, whether in daemon mode or not, it exits immediately and without error. For some reason, no socket is created, and in fact the functions that do the meat of the program don't appear to be reached.

signals are caught inside xvl. if you want to see an error,
run under gdb: gdb over-rides the signal trap and you can
debug / stack trace as normal.
